Summary
The hair on the back of Buck’s neck stood up as the silence settled over him like too thick humidity. Something was off. It was in the quiet of the apartment because silence had a stillness that was unmistakable. Buck knew the stillness of silence intimately. But instead, there was a heaviness that he couldn’t quite put his finger on. Like when something was invading a space that didn’t belong there.
