“But then he came back,” he says, big brown eyes filling with awe. “And he was so sweet and understanding. So thanks for whatever you said.”
“It didn’t take much, he really loves you,” she shrugs. “Joe was mad last night too.”

The house next door had a sale board up for so long that Carlos didn’t think anyone was ever going to move in.
He never really understood why. It’s a nice place, well kept by the previous owners, even well priced for its rent in his opinion. The location is good, close to downtown and lots of amenities, yet not too noisy that you end up wanting to tear your hair out after a few hours. He’s always loved living here. He thought it would’ve been snapped up, but months went by, and he almost contemplated becoming a realtor just so he could sell it himself.

Summary
It’s been two hours since their home burned down, and Carlos is shutting down.
TK’s not sure how to deal with this version of him. The thing about TK is that he’s an incredibly tactile person, and Carlos knows this and indulges it more than he should: he thrives on being close to his boyfriend, on small touches and stolen kisses and hugs where he feels like he could melt into the other man.
This Carlos has all but iced him out. TK knows it’s not deliberate – he’s struggling with the loss of his home and his possessions. He’d be worried if he wasn’t. But TK’s lost things too, and without Carlos’s anchoring touch there’s a buzzing growing under his skin.

It didn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out what an effort Carlos has been making since TK voiced his concerns of them drifting apart, and the improvement has been both significant and obvious; not just in their relationship, but in Carlos’ mood, in his demeanour. Getting through sex without falling asleep has definitely gotten easier, because they just went for two rounds for the first time since their honeymoon, and Carlos is still pressing languid kisses to TK’s neck. Or the one where Carlos is insatiable, TK’s paramedic instincts kick in, and they’re as strong as ever for all their flaws.

“Baby, oh my god,” TK replies, the words rushing out. Barely realizing what he’s doing, he manages to abandon the cups on the table over the hospital bed, moving to his husband. He’s glad he has enough hindsight—or paramedic instincts—to go to his uninjured side, because his first response is to help steady Carlos. He’s fine on his feet, but TK does it anyway, just to feel helpful. “What are you doing up?” he asks as he leads Carlos back to his bed. “You really shouldn’t be up, baby. I thought I could leave you alone for five minutes without you walking around.”
Carlos says nothing until he’s back in bed, groaning softly as he lies down. TK follows, hovering over him so he can fluff up the pillow Carlos puts his head on, and that’s when Carlos sighs.
