She’s back in the black cobblestones of the Lower Slums, she’s haggling for 5 nickels off a loaf of bread, she’s throwing in an extra charm into Blitz’ pile for free, she’s hearing the familiar creak of the floorboard at the Thieves’ Guild when her heels apply too much pressure on it. She walks past the warmth of the fireplace, the embrace of careless laughter and the smell of booze permeating the air as she makes her way through the crowds, through her people. The cool air dries the sweat clinging to the back of her neck as she climbs up the staircase to her apartment, the one that wasn’t really hers at all.

She was the hottest girl Kon had ever seen.
Granted, he hadn't really been alive long enough for it to count but hey, he had seen a lot of girls in that short period, okay? And this one? She was drop dead gorgeous, like a supermodel, and Kon had no idea why his heart seemed to be beating faster just by looking at her from across the room.
He briefly contemplated not doing anything and just ignoring her existence but that was the exact second she looked up in his direction. Her blue eyes widened by a fraction before she gave a soft, small smile and turned away to continue the conversation she was having with her friend. Kon could only see a part of her profile now, most of it hidden by the long curtain of slightly wavy black hair that complemented her pale skin wonderfully under the disco lights.
If just seeing her was enough to get his heart beating faster, seeing her smile was enough to make it stop. Kon didn't stand a chance.
