For Danny Fenton, his morning started in a haze.
Nothing felt right…. his brain was a foggy mess and his head wouldn’t stop pounding with pain. He could barely comprehend where he was, looking around his bedroom in confusion. He didn’t remember going to bed last night…

Danny can’t figure out what exactly that is. He woke up in pain…. with no memory of the past 24 hours.
For Madeline Fenton, her morning started with her entire world being flipped upside down.
Where had she gone so wrong?
Why were her theories and questions seeming to all be falling apart in a span of only 24 hours?
Why were the ghosts that had been coming through the ghost portal for the past two years not the same as the spirits she had grown up seeing?

Summary
Doctors Jack and Maddie Fenton make a pact; it's a perfectly logical one, albeit emotionally difficult to contemplate.
Neither of them wants to become one of the evil, ectoplasmic monsters they hunt. So, after Maddie brings up the uncomfortable possibility of what if one of them did come back as a ghost, each of them makes a promise: if either of them does, in fact, die and produce a ghost, the other will dutifully eradicate it. Simple as that.
A heartbreaking possibility, but ultimately comforting, Maddie thinks, to know that her husband won't let her become what they hate.
At least, it was comforting, right up until the moment she wakes up outside of her own mangled body, surprisingly mentally sound and intact, only to find herself on the other end of Jack's blaster.
