Mud knew a lie when he saw one.
One didn’t become a greedy, traitorous and conniving bastard without picking up a thing or two about recognizing the same bastard traits he had in others.
He wasn’t stupid. Ken could be many things but a good liar wasn’t one of them.
There was something Ken was trying to hide, trying to silence; and Mud wasn’t sure whether he wanted to watch it slowly unravel from the sidelines, or be part of it.

In hindsight, bringing an Artificial Intelligence computer program back with them to the real world was probably not the best idea. But hey: they were still alive. Somewhat. That counted as a win in Pomni’s book.
