Dream is definitely blind, George thinks—not for the first time, not for the last—if a fifty-something year-old woman who’s known them for literally thirty seconds has a better grasp of George’s feelings than his best friend of ten years.
He’s reminded, yet again, that there’s not much he can do about it without jumping in head first while they’re in a convenience store in the middle of nowhere, during a road trip that was supposed to be all about Sapnap.
He doesn’t want to do that, if he’s being honest. It wouldn’t be appropriate, and it could go very, very wrong.
It could scar him for life.

It’s this voice and these touches that lull them into a false sense of security. Something akin to peace, but not quite that.
It’s the feeling you get when you’re standing with a boy you met when you were 17, and then again at 23, and he never saw you young but he knows how you get when you’re sick, habits that stuck from childhood. The feeling you get when he’s a man now, and so are you, and there’s this sense that you belong to each other infinitely.
Suddenly, this summer, it's clear.

“What?” He asks, poking him in the chest where he’s stopped in the doorway.
“This is your room,” he sounds mesmerised. “It’s, like, real.”
George forces a laugh, trying not to think too hard about before as he flattens his palm to Dream’s chest, feeling his heartbeat speed up beneath his hand. “Did you think I was using a green screen and showing you some random room before?”
“That would have been kinda epic.” Dream looks down at him, and George can see the way his eyes slightly shine beneath the bright LED lights.

“You have attachment issues, dude—but like, in the other direction.”
Dream sighs. “He likes stupid puns, and he teases me a lot, and he has a pretty smile. He's in computer science and he codes Minecraft plugins. Like, what was I supposed to do?”
“Ugh,” he makes. “Just don't get the wedding planner out before the third date.”
Despite himself, he chuckles a little. “Won't get to that; I don't have his number. Or address, or last name. Just... uh,” he says, inclining his head towards the headband George had forgotten that morning, “those. Which isn't really—like, I'm not gonna... Cinderella him with those.”
Sapnap scoffs and picks them off the desk, tapping one of the bobbles to make it bounce. “Well, do me a favor: if he comes back for these, don't ask him out. It's weird, man. People expect a one-night stand and then there you are—asking to meet their parents.”
OR Dream has a one-night stand with George after picking him up at a party, but it quickly turns out he might feel a bigger connection than that...

Dream types away at his desk, not looking away from his screen. “Yeah?”
George stares back at him, eyebrows quirked like he’s got a question on the tip of his tongue. “Do you think if you kissed someone and cracked your neck, they could, like, hear it?”
Dream’s face goes a little red at the thought. “Uh, I don’t know.” The hair on the back of his neck rises.
“Well,” George sits up, tossing his phone to the side. “Can we try it?”
The blond whips around. ”What?”

“I think you were trying to say something.” George spoke up, leaning against the dresser across from his bed, taking in every second that Dream marveled at the sight before him. George didn’t think this was all that special, but based on the way Dream only met his gaze for a second before instantly grabbing a pillow to place in his lap, George felt accomplished in his mission.
“Skeppy and Bad kissing on stream tomorrow. If they don’t, you get ten grand. But if they do…” Dream trailed off, beginning to blink quickly, stealing glances at George’s bare legs and the way his underwear barely peeked out below his shirt.
“If they do kiss, I’ll let you fuck me.” George finished Dream’s thought, fighting back a smile at the way Dream seemed to fall apart just hearing George say the words.

When George is stressed, he has nightmares, and when George has nightmares, he sleepwalks. In a subconscious search for relief, George sleepwalks to the safest place he can find- Dream's room. Dream finds out more than he bargained for when George’s family arrives for the holidays, but he struggles to make conscious-George as comforted by his presence as unconscious-George.

“Well you’re not sleeping on it either,” Dream insisted. “So you either take my offer and I can sleep on the couch, or we both stay here in my room and share my bed.”
George blinked once. Then twice.
“What?” He let out, shyly taking his hand away as he looked at his friend with slightly widened eyes, surprise and confusion in his features. The American shrugged in response.
“I mean, it’s a big bed…”
“You’re serious?” He questioned, despite knowing the answer. The blond instantly nodded. He let out a soft sigh. "I can’t tell you to sleep on the couch, Dream…”
“Then we share,” his friend mumbled, shrugging again. Like it was that easy for him, like the answer was simple.
George was too tired, and couldn’t think of any other solution. So he didn’t.
“Okay,” he mumbled, nodding just once.
“Okay,” the boy said back, mimicking his gesture.
And that was that.
Then a new routine of interactions was quick to be born.

Dream watches George intently, how his body tenses and his ears turn as red as his face, and how he bites the inside of his cheek. He knows exactly what that means.
“No,” George says, and Dream knows he’s lying. He knows because he knows George, and everyone else here knows George but they don’t know him like Dream does.
The conversation around them shifts again, the attention falling back onto general principles of hookups when you’re famous on the internet, and Dream is the only one in the room who knows George is a virgin.
