It's 1138, and Civil War is stirring in England. In the North, rumors of a Scottish invasion have begun to spread. Dan is a knight whose disguise as a man has recently fallen to pieces. Phil is the odd daughter of a country lord. They fall in love. This is a story about some of those things.

Then he spots him, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel in the most boring suburban dad car Ilya has ever had the misfortune of laying his eyes on, and he’s so happy to see him that his legs feel unsteady beneath his weight.

Summary
Grantaire isn’t sure what he’s signing up for when he answers an ad looking for a partner on a homestead out West, but he doesn’t have many other options. When he takes a chance and goes to a town called Amity, he’s met by Enjolras, who’s willing to share a home with him and teach him the work of the farm, but his heart is closed, and they’re wed in name only. Amity is full of friends and outlaws alike, and Grantaire thinks this might finally be a place where he can belong, but it’s hard for it to feel like a home when his husband won’t touch him, and the outlaws are a threat that grows with every passing day. If he can’t help keep Amity safe, and convince Enjolras that loving him is worth the risk, he might lose the only home he’s ever really had.

Grantaire is a physical instructor. Musichetta and Feuilly are mechanics and Drivesuit technicians. Azelma is a Kaiju specialist. Gavroche just wants to be left alone. Lamarque is the marshal who runs the Shatterdome.
When the first monster rose from the ocean and attacked San Francisco, Jean Prouvaire was so high he didn’t realise what he was watching on the TV. Neither, in his defence, did Bossuet, who was equally stoned at the time. They’d been flicking through the channels, looking for something funny to watch, and they’d settled on a monster movie.

Summary
For most of college, Grantaire was hopeless over Enjolras, and everyone but Enjolras knew it. Now he’s worked to get over his crush, and for the most part, he's fine. When Combeferre asks him to choreograph and dance in the Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired opera he composed as his senior thesis, Grantaire says yes, even though he’s cast opposite Enjolras, as Puck to his Oberon. The chance to dance is worth the potential problems, and he'll have his friends as a buffer.
He doesn't count on long hours of practicing and choreographing and talking together, while they try to figure each other and their futures out. As much as he tries to avoid it, it seems inevitable that he falls for Enjolras again, and this time it isn't a crush.
