Phainon may have started panicking. At the bare minimum, he felt blindsided— Mydei was purposefully being combative, despite Phainon having been nothing but amicable, and now he was making it sound like Phainon was the one in the wrong.
So he did the most logical thing he could think of in response, of course— acting before really thinking about it— and demonstrated his willingness to participate in what he'd perceived to be a provocation from the Crown Prince—
He undid the knot holding the tiny modesty towel in place—the pristine white fabric fell, and with it, so did Mydeimos's gaze.
“Oh,” Mydei answered eloquently, an odd expression crossing his face as he stared unabashedly, while Phainon, much more abashedly, allowed him to.
Be it through ignorance or wishful thinking, Phainon interprets Mydei's shamelessness as a direct provocation to settle the score between them, following the event of their ten-day, ten-night battle resulting in a draw.

Summary
Aventurine is stuck in a time loop on the day of his “death.”
After forty cycles of failed attempts to get time moving forward, he decides to take a break from solving the mystery and blow off a little steam with Ratio. But the doctor’s reaction to what Aventurine intends to be a casual hook-up raises deep issues for both of them and ends up dragging Ratio into the time loop.
To break free, they will have to cooperate. Productive communication, however, turns out to be a much bigger challenge than the time loop itself.

“I'm trying very hard not to rip you to shreds, doctor.” His voice was grainy and desperate, eyes widening as he felt the heart beneath his palm speed up, thumping loudly. Not from fear, as he expected, but- arousal?
Ratio was blushing, staring at him with blown pupils, and the world tilted on its axis.
What the fuck.
Aventurine swallowed, leaning closer. He regarded Ratio with narrow eyes. “You wish to be used… as a distraction?”
Ratio searches for Aventurine and finds him lying motionless on the grand stage. His first attempt at helping the creature practically writhing in agony is more or less successful — he finds himself entranced and intrigued by his form, making a choice which derails his entire relationship with the (infuriatingly attractive) gambler indefinitely.
(Or: Ratio indulges in his horny fantasies and gets fucked into oblivion by Boss!Aventurine)

“This had better actually be important.”
“Trust me, doc. It’s very important.”
And so, Ratio arrives at Aventurine’s home.
“Satisfied? Now, what was so important that I needed to come here instead of catching up with my work?”
“You.” Aventurine says easily, leaning in towards the doctor with a lecherous grin. But there’s a mischievous glint in his eyes that has Ratio feeling suspicious, “You’re about ready to explode, doc! So, I’m making a generous offer here that’ll work out for the both of us.” Aventurine places a hand on his chest, “I get to try something I’ve always been curious about, and you,” he then moves that same hand to Ratio’s, making a point to place his gloved fingers against the open window on the doctor’s chest, “get to… release some tension, if you get what I mean.”
In which Aventurine uses his cornerstone for unintended purposes. Ratio has a great time.
