Summary
This is the canon era with a single change: in this world, through skill and/or difficult circumstances, people can learn the magic of manipulating time and space by drawing maps. Colonial powers train their sea captains in cartography as science so they can claim territory, literally drawing over Indigenous geographies across the globe. Ed, aka Blackbeard, is the most skilled rogue cartographer in the Caribbean, famous for creating spaces on maps where sea creatures assist him in capturing and looting ships. One day, Ed hears about a new rogue cartographer - the Gentleman Pirate, whose piratical maps are full of whimsy and imagination that others lack. They meet and learn that, even across space and time, together they are stronger than any force that tries to tear them apart.

Ed is a sailor with a broken rudder; the response to his distress call is nothing he expected.
He waits. The radio crackles into life.
“Pan-pan,” the voice on the other end says. Male. Kiwi. Bit odd, in this part of the world. A bit nervous, but then, maybe that’s not surprising. Not an everyday thing, even when it’s not a more urgent Mayday call.
“La Concorde QAR-1, La Concorde QAR-1, La Concorde QAR-1.
This is the sailboat Revenge SBT2, Revenge SBT2, Revenge SBT2.
Received, pan-pan.
Would you like a tug? Over.”
Ed grins. “Never been one to say no to that, Revenge, over,” he drawls down the radio.

Summary
On the next day there is a blue glass bottle half-buried in the sand near their little fishing boat, a scroll of paper curling inside tantalizingly. Ed's first thought is that Stede is going to be absolutely delighted if his wildly impractical way of sending messages somehow caught on, but as he steps closer, he realizes that the handwriting on the letter is too familiar by far to be someone else's.
Dear Ed, the letter reads. Ed tilts his head to have a look through the glass.
You said you only ever received one of my letters in a bottle, and that you found it lovely. Since all the others got lost at sea, I thought I would write more of them for you.
“Stede!!” Ed yells, turning towards their ramshackle inn and holding the bottle up when Stede pops his head through the open door, eyebrows arched. “You lunatic!” Stede does not even have the decency to be embarrassed, looking down mock-coyly before he disappears again.
“This is some wildly romantic shit,” Ed mutters, getting the letter out of the bottle and unrolling it fully.

Summary
Here it is: reason for my letter! In just a little over two months’ time, Ed will be celebrating his birthday. Regrettably, birthdays have gone notably unrecognised in Ed’s world to date, and I’d very much like to turn that around. He’s had a bloody hard run over the past twelve months, and now that we’re settled and living in relative comfort and safety, it’s of utmost importance to me that he begins to recognise just how well-endeared he is to those whom he sees as his family.
Therefore, I would like to formally invite you to celebrate the 46th (give or take) birthday of Edward Teach, here at The Inn (proper name TBA) on the 22nd of July. I just know your attendance would be very highly regarded.
