He shouldn't have said yes so easily.
Clark had known, on some level, even as the word yes was leaving his mouth, that he was going to regret it. That was the thing about being an optimist: it occasionally made you agree to things before your brain had finished loading all the relevant information. He would have said yes eventually, he was almost certain of that, Perry had a way of framing requests that made refusal feel impossible. But if he had known, if someone (Lois) had pulled him aside beforehand and said, “Smallville, here is what saying ‘yes’ looks like in practice,” he might have at least paused and asked a clarifying question or two.
What saying yes looked like in practice was: his nicest suit.
Or: Superman and Batman meet properly for the first time; Clark does not handle it as gracefully as he should, the heartbeat memorization wasn't on purpose, and he would like everyone to stop looking at him like that.
