this changed me as a person, no exaggeration. the tone is sensitive and raw and it actually sounds a lot like the book, all while interweaving references to several events of the story, which brings it all together into a very convincing gay reading of the source material. when i first read it in 2015, this really helped me process my grief and inspired me to write my own elegiac memoir about the boy i liked, who'd died just a year before that. i think about (and quote) the final line in this very often.
