Summary
Mike turned his head to the side of his nightstand to find out what the time was. The watch showed half-past twelve, which meant he spent the last two hours just laying still and doing absolutely nothing.
Nice way to begin your day, especially your thirtieth birthday.
When he was around ten years old he thought, how amazing this day would be, having his whole family and friends around, celebrating and being closer than ever.
When he was sixteen, he thought that he wouldn't make it to seventeen, quietly wishing that something terrible, like being torn by a Demogorgon or shot by the Military would happen to him.
Both versions of his younger self were wrong, and he wasn’t sure, who he liked the most.
Anyways, there he was - freshly thirty, alive and terribly depressed.
Or
Mike is depressed and suicidal, meanwhile Will tries to pretend that he’s happy with Carlton.

Summary
Mike barks a laugh. “I’m, unfortunately, requesting your companionship Thursday night to see Child’s Play 2 with Will and I.”
She sends him a look of bewilderment. “How did I get dragged into your date with Will?”
“Y’know, it’s really great that I can count on such discretion from you and Lucas. Super awesome that you don’t tell each other everything.” Max ignores him and he continues on. “Well, I tried my best, but he kind of looked at me all-dumbfounded and wasn’t saying anything, so I panicked.”
“Well, duh. He’s liked you since, like, birth. Did you even give him enough time to answer?”
“Of course I gave him enough time to answer.” Mike grits out, voice tight. “I know how to have a fucking conversation with someone, Maxine.”
Mike Wheeler can’t pick a major to save his life, is fighting for said life in the worst class ever (Astronomy 101), and is desperately trying to romance the best person in his life.
Enter: Will Byers, his advanced concepts in painting final project, and his pretty eyelashes.

Summary
It's like Will's body moves before he can even process what he’s moving to, like his senses know when he’s near and pull him there before he can realize what he’s doing. His former well gripped want is bleeding though his fingers. He feels as if everyone can see it in the way he blinks, can smell the desire pooling out of his pores.
“—definitely overreacting, I mean, he’s as oblivious as they come!” Robin’s voice cuts through his thoughts.
“I don't know... I think even Steve could have picked up on what was going on in my head,” he squeezes his eyes shut at the onslaught of aftershock anxiety rushing back at the memory.
“I whimpered, Robin!” he pulls his hands to cover his face, to try to ground himself.
“You’re probably right... Steve could have picked up on what was going on,” she’s facing him on the couch, her knees leaning further to press up against his legs as she moves further into his space. “But Mike wouldn’t know sexual electricity if it was shooting from his own dick.”
OR: Will's been in love with Mike Wheeler since before he can remember, it was bound to slip out at some point.

Will shoves his face back into his hands. “I’m going to fail.”
Max rolls her eyes. “You’re not going to fail, you’re going to paint Mike.”
Will lifts his head up from his hands, eyes wide, and shakes his head. “You don’t understand.” He pleads with his awful, awful friends, voice low. “He’s been, he’s using my-he came out of my bathroom in just a towel last night.”

Will Byers was raised to have the only correct opinions on music ever, actually, and he’s proud to show this off in the music review section of his university's queer student artists’ collective’s relatively popular zine, zine of the times. He actually really enjoys this position–that is, until the president of the zine informs him that he has to review his least favorite band on this earth: The Fellowship of the Ring.
At least his incredibly attractive neighbor in his U.S. history class is gonna go with him on the assignment, right?
Or: A music snob and the frontman of his most-hated local band walk into a bar for a date. It’s either the beginning of a really good joke or a really shitty love story.
