All this time, he’s been waiting because he thought it was Katsuki who would break the silence, Katsuki who would bring it up, Katsuki who would lay out his hand for Izuku to see; because that's the way it had always been with them. Izuku could never break through Katsuki’s walls, couldn’t get him to open up even when he tried, because Katsuki was the only one who reserved the right to let Izuku in. To let him see his true feelings. To show him that maybe, just maybe, it was okay to be vulnerable in front of someone you trusted. And Izuku would rather die before breaking Katsuki’s trust.
So what the hell is he supposed to do?-
Katsuki's voice still is healing after the war, but when Izuku figures out he's refusing to speak, he can't stand the silence.

"What the fuck are you two talking about? The damn nerd is standing right beside you!"During a battle, Midoriya gets hit by a villain whose quirk detaches his soul from his body. Stuck in a ghost-like state, the boy enters a race against time in order to save himself from permanently dying. Much to his luck - or lack of it -, the only person who can see and talk to him in this state is no one other than Kacchan.
Alternatively: Deku and Kacchan are soulbound.

Izuku becomes the number one hero of Japan. He’s quite happy, really, except for the fact that Katsuki’s lack of presence is more noticeable than ever before. Calling his old number is a split-second decision—one that Izuku almost regrets.
Almost, because Katsuki somehow answers the phone from beyond the grave and… well, he’s always had a knack for doing the impossible.
