He knows what Mickey would probably say if he knew Ian was thinking that – something like, ‘Jesus, Gallagher, I'm here cause I got fed up of fucking girls.’ If he was in a good mood that day, at least; then Ian would be able to spot the little twinkle in his eye. The one he can't place, not perfectly, but it's something in between amusement and fondness. Not that Mickey would admit to it. He doesn't admit to much but Ian's gotten used to it, to hearing Mickey's confessions in his own ways.

One more time.
One more time and then he can get the fuck out of Dodge, for good.
Mickey scowls at the skyscrapers rising like Lego blocks from downtown, as the plane circles the South Side preparing to land. The smarter part of him says to look away, but he still ends up running his finger over the window, tracing the lines of familiar avenues and parks. Homing in. Waiting for the city to chew him up and spit him out again. He squishes an ant-sized truck on South Halsted under his thumb and turns away.A very long Ian (Pt I & II) and Mickey (Pt III) POV fix-it. Everything is canon through Season 7; started before S8, so divergent from there onwards.
I don't like to give too much plot away (and there's a lot of it), so I'll just say that Ian's chickens come home to roost and he's forced to choose between Mickey and his family once more. It is largely a drama, but there's a solid vein of black humor running through it and sections of fluff and smut, plus a lot of character exploration.
