Summary
To some, the return of magic is a miracle; to others, a catastrophe. But to physicist Julia Chen, it’s all a colossal headache. But Julia’s quest does not take place in a political vacuum. In Ottawa, the new Fairy Viceroy draws up her plans for the country, even as her puppet Prime Minister, Chuck Oakes, struggles desperately to protect his people. But rebellion is brewing, and Mr. Elsevier may just be the key to human victory.
Now, with the murderous politics of the Fae heating up, Julia will soon learn that, in sorcery as in science, simple questions can sometimes have very dangerous answers. She is on the cusp of ultimate knowledge: a theory of magic that would explain what has become of the world and how it can be reversed—but asking the wrong question may well unravel reality itself.

They find him on the stairs, face down in a pile of blood. Faye sits next to him, flips him over so he's lying across her lap. "I hate this," she says, refusing to look at Jet, who she knows is crying above them. "We shouldn't have bothered." She rests a hand on his chest. Over his heart. His cold, dead heart; one that had never beaten for her, and now never would. His heart belonged to Julia, and now that she was gone so was he. Idiot, she thinks, and is about to repeat aloud when she feels something flutter beneath her fingers.
And then, it flutters again.
Faye's eyes blow wide and she pulls his chest up to her ear by the lapels of his coat, listening:
Thump. Thump. Thump.
She shoves him off of her, and he slides down the stairs to Jet's surprised feet. "He's alive," she says quietly, her stinging eyes rising up to meet Jet's wide ones.
He's frozen for a moment, then he's leaning down to pick him up. "Bastard."

Summary
Faye wants to hate Julia. She REALLY does. She wants to hate how Julia helps Jet cook without being asked. Or how she and Spike slow-dance in the living room late at night when they think no one’s up. She wants to hate how these days, Spike only ever smells like cigarettes or sex. Or how every time he looks at Faye, it’s like he’s seeing her in color for the very first time.
Or: No one on the Bebop has any clue what to do with a happy ending, least of all Faye.

Spike couldn’t believe that Black Dog, former terror of the ISSP and current terror of the bounty hunting world, had a soft spot for puppies. Except that wasn’t true. He could absolutely believe that Jet was soft for mongrels and kids and anyone who needed to be taken care of.
After all, Jet was soft for him.
Spike gets nostalgic about the first time he and Jet met.

Jet’s face is serious, his gaze somber, and Spike decides he really doesn’t like it. He tosses the bloody gauze aside and finally puts his hands on Jet’s hips like he has wanted to this whole time and pulls Jet in close. “I’ll tell you a secret,” Spike says, flicking his gaze from Jet’s eyes to his mouth and back again; “I don’t, either.”

Six months after being left dead on the floor of the Dubai penthouse, Daniel wants answers, and he's determined to get them. His maker is toying with him, though, always present but never there. He's always following in his shadow, cleaning up his messes from behind the scenes while avoiding confrontation. When they finally cross paths again, he finds that there is more to the story than he knew. He searches for answers in the blood flowing through his maker's veins, and solace in the circle of his arms.

Armand lets out a small sigh. So small Daniel almost misses it. “There is so much you don’t know. I would not expect you to understand.” His expression changes, “And yet…”
Daniel cocks a brow. “Yet what?”
The light catches on Armand’s alarmingly bright eyes. “Even after everything… I am surprised to see your desire for me is still strong.”
Daniel's stomach turns. Flips over so furiously he's left momentarily speechless. And then, he's bolting up from his chair, and ignores the woozy rush it deploys to his head.
“My desire for you?” he bites out, squaring up to hide his unease. “You’re fucking kidding me, right?”
Armand’s mouth, which has been the source of confusion on more than one occasion, is mostly a straight line, only a slight curl at its corner.
“I can assure you, I am not.”
