Summary
Baking had always, without fail, been the one thing that had been able to still every idea or fear that passed into her conscious. She’d relied on it through elementary school when bullying had gotten the better of her, when her father left before even saying goodbye. The first time she’d stepped into a kitchen wasn’t long after her fifth birthday, her mother had taught her everything she knew, and Alyssa often pinned that as the one good thing the pushy parent had done, only slightly in jest. She might have pushed her to breaking point during High School and led her to run herself bone dry with the amount of extracurriculars she partook in, but she also gave her the skills she needed to immerse herself in her one sanctuary. It was her therapy, her one relief, the thing she liked most in the world and probably her first love. Though it wasn’t working now, not when her life had ended up so hopeless that she needed it more than she ever had before. She still baked of course, it was basically her job and even if it didn’t provide the usual respite, she still enjoyed it.

Summary
The four-year-old had never brought up siblings before. Why would she? She was happy just being able play with a wide array of toys with her friends at school and then come home, back to having the complete attention of both of her moms. Rosie didn’t have any reason to think that she was about to be promoted to the eldest child, but she also wasn’t stupid, and had had gotten increasingly more empathetic as she got older. Rosie was starting to understand her own feelings better, and other people’s came naturally with that. So, when Alyssa spent half of her mornings with her head in the toilet throwing up, she was very concerned, and she didn’t keep her mama in the dark about that.

Summary
“Rosie was alright at school I think, though apparently she’s got a secret. I’ve tried asking but she said it was as surprise, you should try though.”
“Hmm interesting, I wonder what preschool drama it is this time.” Emma mused, turning around to cast her eyes over to Rosie once again, “Hey Ro, what’s your secret?”

Summary
“I can’t sleep, I’m excited.” Emma huffed, lying back down again too, somehow closer to her wife than she had been before, “Please…” she tried again, but to no avail.
“It’s a Saturday, any time before eight is too early and isn’t your birthday, remember. Just go back to sleep, once she’s up we can bring her into our bed for her bottle and some birthday cuddles.” Alyssa suggested, she could practically hear the smile splitting onto her wife’s face at the idea, she was a sucker for cuddles and there were certainly worst things to have to endure. Admittedly she was feeling rather sentimental about the date even if Emma was the more outwardly excited one of the pair. She couldn’t quite believe it had been a whole year; time was a cruel thing. She heard a disgruntled reply before drifting back off to snooze for a little longer

It's Rosie's first birthday and Emma is very very excited, Alyssa didn't realise she had two one-year-olds.

Summary
Having a toddler was, as Emma was learning, constantly surprising. It was exhausting and stressful among a whole host of other things, but it was also the most incredible thing she had ever done, and she wouldn’t exchange it for the world. She’d never really anticipated herself having children but after they got married the conversation had come up and she then found herself, almost four years later, parent to a two-year-old who had quickly become one of the best things that had ever happened to her.

Alyssa compulsively baby-proofs their house before their daughter arrives, there are sometimes where it's a curse, sometimes where it's a blessing and other times where it made no difference at all.
