Summary
“Buck?” The man asks. His face is so dirty his features are almost blurred, obscured further by his goggles and helmet.
“What’s a Buck?” Evan croaks. He’s pretty much frozen to his seat, his heart jackhammering against his chest.
The man reaches forward and, behind dirty goggles, Evan sees wide, frantic eyes. His fingers press faintly to Evan’s birthmark, the one just above his eyebrow. His hands are freezing cold.
“Buck,” the man says again, sighs out the word like it’s a prayer. And then, in front of Evan’s eyes, he disappears just as quickly as he came.
or: before he even joins the 118, Buck keeps meeting an Eddie from the future. Eddie says that they’re best friends. Buck’s beginning to think it’s a lot more complicated than that.

Summary
“Oh my God,” Buck says as cold, certain clarity seeps through him. “I know why I’m upset.”
He can barely bring himself to open his eyes. When he finally manages to find the courage, he sees Ravi looking at him with eager anticipation.
“Yes?” Ravi prompts, leaning forward. He waves a hand encouragingly at Buck. “Go on?”
“I think,” Buck says slowly, “I’m in love with Hen.”
Or: Buck wildly misinterprets his jealousy over Hen and Eddie being partners.

Summary
The thing about hearing Buck’s thoughts is that Buck thinks about Eddie a lot.
Not in a weird way — just, well, it is a lot. Pretty regularly, in fact.
or: Eddie can read Buck’s mind. He has conflicting feelings about that.

Summary
“We asked for mauve,” Eddie says sharply and suddenly. He doesn’t mean to say anything at all, but the words force themselves past his lips and into the room before he can grab them back. “So, no, actually. Lilac isn’t acceptable.”
“Eddie?” Buck asks, sounding flabbergasted.
It’s unfair. Because they asked for mauve. Explicitly and multiple times. Eddie knows this because Buck had spent an hour talking to him about the cohesive but playful mix of mauve and sage green after a 48-hour shift, and Eddie had listened. He hadn’t fallen asleep like his body desperately wanted to, but he’d laid in bed, looked at the thousandth Pinterest photo that Buck had shown him, and nodded along because he liked how Buck had lit up whenever he showed a sliver of interest.
How hard is it to get the correct linens?
or: Eddie worries about Clipboard Buck’s appearance before their wedding and becomes a bit of a Groomzilla along the way.

Summary
“I’m mortified, Eddie, I really thought Buck would have talked to you about it,” Maddie says. She looks genuinely regretful, her eyebrows pulling together with concern. “Obviously, he clarified things for me, told me that he wasn’t pining for his straight best friend, and I’m just…I’m so sorry. It wasn’t my place to speculate on your relationship like that.”
There must be a worm that’s wrapped itself around his thoughts — that’s constrained his neural pathways to just the thought of Buck’s in love with you — because something takes over Eddie’s mouth. Something entirely foreign and jarring prompts him to say with too much incredulity: “Buck said he wasn’t in love with me?”
Maddie gapes at him.
Eddie snaps his mouth shut with so much force his teeth click.
or: Maddie tells Eddie about the conversation she had with Buck. Eddie spirals about it.

Summary
The second time Shane Hollander wakes up on November 16th, he has a panic attack.
The problem is — he tries to explain through gasped breaths after Hayden basically knocks down his door, shouting that they’re going to miss their flight — the thing is, Shane’s already woken up on November 16th. He’s already flown to Boston. He’s already been to practice, and he’s checked into the hotel, and he has lived this day before.
He doesn’t mention that he’s also already fucked Ilya Rozanov twice and had a fucking tuna melt that Rozanov made and drank the ginger ale that Rozanov bought specifically for him. He doesn’t mention that they’d snuggled on the couch watching TV like some kind of couple, like boyfriends.
He doesn’t mention that he fell asleep thinking about how Ilya — fuck, no, thinking about how Rozanov had called him sweetheart and Shane, and that, even now, he can’t quite get the cadence of Ilya’s voice out of his head.
Or: After the tuna melt fiasco, Shane Hollander wakes up in a time loop.
