Summary
Kleya paces the floor of the Redemption. She's done her best to avoid hospitals since Coruscant, since Luthen.
She definitely does not want to be here. She tells herself it's because Vel will be fine, and there's really no reason to be here. She tells herself it's because Vel's going to die, and there's really no reason to be here.

Summary
She’s the first thing Kleya’s really been able to focus on since arriving on Yavin, or in this bed at least. The walls and ceiling and details of the yurt have slid out of her mind as quickly as she’s taken them in, more flux. Vel at least sticks.

Mon has spent enough of her life caring about her cousin. She likes to think she’s honed an ability to know when someone is going to hurt Vel. The question is if Cinta is like that.

Summary
Kleya feels no desire to move. This is exactly where she deserves to be, now that it’s too late. Maybe the most perverse thing about it is that Vel’s quarters have a language, too. She can’t help but start to pick it up.
Or, five times Kleya and Vel care for each other before they confess their feelings, and one time after.

Summary
Kleya expects Vel to retreat when she tosses out that last barb—just two single women, surveying the prospects—finely crafted, a blade she fully intended to slip between Vel’s ribs. It was the kind of line designed to rile her just enough to amuse Kleya and end the encounter on her terms before walking away.
She’s already doing just that, turning slightly, prepared to let the crowd close around her like water. But tonight, Vel doesn’t let her; she doesn’t back down.

“‘He’ll be there when you need him,’ were your words. Either he’ll be here or he’ll go. But clearly the decision is hurting you, and if you keep lingering between choices like this maybe it would be better to–”
Bix lunged forward, one hand grasping Vel’s collar and the other grasping at the hem of her vest. She yanked Vel forward, hands shaking and eyes dark with rage, until there was barely a gap between them.
“Because you’re dealing with it so well, hm? Being alone.” Bix growled, hot breath dancing across Vel’s mouth. “It was destroying you even before Ghorman; you just refused to name it.”
Vel and Bix after their conversation in 207. Things spiral out of control, fast.

Summary
‘Don’t talk,’ Kleya growls, and kisses her again harder because this is easier than talking. Easier than letting the argument finish its work.
Vel doesn’t contend, and that’s the point. This is the only truce they know how to make.

Summary
“I didn’t keep most of the memories. Other people’s memories. I get flashes of big things, births, deaths. Except about you.”
Carol feels the confusion slip onto her face. Nervousness creeps up her spine again. “Me?”
“I know everything that anybody has ever thought about you, Carol. Every memory. Every feeling. Helen. Your ex-girlfriends. Your dentist. It’s like I have a Carol encyclopedia in my head.”
Carol had thought that she was done experiencing fresh horrors. What a nightmare it is to realize that she is not. “Oh, god.” She says.
“Oh, god,” Zosia agrees.
After they manage to break Zosia free of the hive, Zosia and Carol try to navigate the field of landmines that is their relationship.

[...] “Now your grip,” she didn’t hesitate to wrap her fingers over Mon’s, pressing them into the right curve. “Keep this finger steady,” she traced along Mon’s trigger finger, her voice low.
Mon huffed a soft laugh, part nerves, part affection. “You’re enjoying this.”

Summary
Echo Base is overcrowded, unfinished, and painfully cold. When Vel is ordered to share a bunk, she expects inconvenience -- not a familiar face she wasn’t prepared to see again.
Between snowstorms, long rotations, and the fragile routines of survival, two women circle what was left unsaid, discovering that some reunions change everything simply by happening.

Summary
The first time Kleya sees Scarif, she thinks of a museum.
Not the kind tourists visit—she can’t quite imagine the word tourist belonging to this war—but the kind the Empire builds to display itself back to the galaxy: glass and light, engineered palms, a shoreline too perfect to be trusted. Even the air tastes curated, salt threaded with something clean and manufactured, as if the planet has been scrubbed into obedience.

Summary
Kleya has never measured a year in holidays.
Time, for her, is a series of operations: briefings and exfiltration points, supply runs and dead drops, and encrypted bursts on tight windows. The calendar lives in codenames and coordinates. If there were festivals anywhere in those grids, she never noticed them. She and Luthen counted in risk, not seasons.
