Anakin looked up and met his gaze from across the table. The comfortable tension in the air thoroughly snapped in the wake of Obi-Wan’s exclamation, and he only had a few seconds to gape in mortification at his own gracelessness before Anakin was throwing his head back and laughing. “Kind of you to finally notice!”

That was what everyone saw, at least. When they looked at Obi-Wan, Shmi, and Anakin, they saw the perfect nuclear family; father, mother, and son. What they really had was something better.

Summary

This all changes when, on a mission to free the planet of Naboo from the Trade Federation's blockade, his master Qui-Gon Jinn discovers the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker, on Tatooine. Qui-Gon chooses Anakin for his Padawan, while Yan Dooku takes on Obi-Wan's training. Despite it all, Obi-Wan and Anakin still choose each other.

Baelor let out a shaky breath, his pupils blowing wide. "The sheer power of it. The pain. Knowing it was you who possessed the strength to break me."
He leaned in further, his voice a ghost against the heavy wool of Maekar’s tunic. "I liked it. I liked the pain of it. It felt… right. To be at your mercy."
Maekar stood frozen, the bandage dangling from his hand, his mind struggling to process the words.
"What?" Maekar asked, his voice flat with disbelief.
