Summary
District 12 hadn't impressed Johanna at all on her first exposure, and her opinion hadn't really improved much during her second visit. Or, one year after the war is over, Johanna makes the impulsive decision to hole up with Katniss in District 12 to get through the misery of a Reaping Day anniversary and finds herself completely at the mercy of some rain and her own fears.

Summary
There was no particular reason for Vincent to go bother Harry in his office. Work on the quantum mirror was proceeding on schedule; Vincent should adhere to his instead of taking an unplanned break. Their next business trip wasn't for another month. They'd had dinner together only the day before and Harry would inevitably join him for yet another dinner tonight in the cafeteria in only three hours. Still, Vincent went.

Summary
Sloppy. The whole thing was sloppy. Grabbing him right in the doorway would alert Vincent—and the multitude of Vincent's bodyguards that Harry wasn't supposed to know about—immediately. Unless Vincent had arranged it. Unless this was somehow yet another test for him to endure.
Or Harry gets dosed with some truth serum and has a horrible time.

Summary
Írissë set aside her knife, and lifted her sticky, freezing hands to her face.
“How,” she demanded of him, fierce in the rough quiet of the words, “are you not angry?”

Summary
Legolas blinks up into the sunlight. "It has been some time since we were strangers," he says, as thought he is only just realising this. "Just this morning you called me your friend."
"I did, and I will not recant it unless given a good reason."
"Good," Legolas says, with a startling fierceness. "Good. And— you are my friend, too."
"Poor fool of an Elf, you've gone and done it," Gimli says, and it's light-hearted but he means it. "No getting rid of me now."

Summary
“Sauron held up a mirror,” Finrod says. “Clear as Aeluin! I had all my bonds broken for me before I entered his halls. Blood was not bond enough, nor fealty; friendship died in the frost, and oaths-- I am a free elf at last, not countryman, not king, not son, not husband, not brother. No aid to the Beorings, at the last. No true friend to you.” There, in the darkness; the low sound, the wolf’s breath. “Only the last bond is left, that keeps me in my skin…”
“And the manacles stapling you to the wall,” Andreth says, dry, and the walls of Tol-in-Gaurhoth vanish. Finrod is left blinking, hard, against the sudden accession of light.
“Actually,” he says, “only one is attached to the wall.”
