Tommy had been in space with a range of alien crewmates for, well, an undisclosed amount of time. (He hadn't been keeping track). He'd expected a fair share of culture shock when he accepted that he couldn't go home.
What he didn't expect, however, was for the literal Bird Man to suddenly act like a bird.
