He wants to continue, to ask Spock to elaborate more but his thoughts are empty and his brain just can’t seem to function. No neurons firing off and no words leave his lips. Spock is closer now, his face just inches from his and making eye contact with Spock almost sends him into cardiac arrest. Spock’s looking at him like a predator does his prey, and Jim’s not above knowing he’s quite the snack.

Nothing in the world, no amount of Expect-The-Unexpected style training, could have prepared him for Spock in the morning- still half asleep, hair messy, eyes bleary; all soft, frayed edges and almost-smiles. It was like nothing Kirk had ever seen before -he was like nothing Kirk had ever seen before- and oh, the universe was so kind and so cruel to do this to him, to let him wake up with Spock for the first time but not in the way he wanted to.
or, Spock and Kirk have to share a bed, and Kirk has many, many thoughts about it.

Summary
Spock had a hard time coming to terms with the loss of his planet and more importantly the loss of his mother. He fell back on a time honored human tradition to deal with it; inebriation.
Jim understands, he really does. There are days where alcohol really is the only thing that will get him through it.
Together they might be able to get each other through a lot of things, with a little help from an old friend.
