Summary
The chain rattles against the metal of the gears as Lars presses his weight onto the pedal. The bike has got to be older than him - maybe older than he and Kirk put together - but time has done little to weaken the simple machine, and it clatters into motion, creaky and rusty and determined.
In a second, he's lost in the dark, the deep tree cover obscuring everything but the noise of the borrowed bike.
