Summary
Ted gets divorced a little quicker and more aggressively then in canon but he's also a little more self aware and on the road to healing a lot quicker with the help of Rebecca who is most certainly the love of his life ( we know that. not sure if he does yet). From the start of 1.04 onwards lets see how season 1 plays out with that in mind.

There it is again, the light. She blinks again, the muscles weak and her eyes squint. She feels like a flower chasing sunlight, forcing her eyes to fully open.
Hurts, she thinks. She tries to move and nothing. Her arms and legs refuse to cooperate, even her mouth is committing the ultimate betrayal. Her eyes blink slow as she fights with them against the cascading light assaulting her eyes. It’s so bright. She’s been in the darkness for longer than she thought.

Summary
When Ted has to go back to Kansas for two weeks to attend his cousin’s wedding, he’s hit with anxiety about going and having to see old family (and Michelle and Jake). Wanting to help, Rebecca offers to go with him. But on their arrival, Ted’s cousin and her wife-to-be assume they’re a couple and are so happy to see Ted with his ‘girlfriend’ that neither Ted nor Rebecca can bring themselves to correct them. That’s when they come up with the plan - if they’re fake dating, and everyone thinks Ted there with Rebecca as his partner, maybe this whole thing with his family will be a bit easier? Only neither of them factor into this plan that they’re both secretly in love with the other. Both believing they’re too broken to ever be good enough.
But now they’re on a healing journey, with some help from those around them.
