“Look,” Buck says. “It’s not like I-I’m gonna move back in or anything, but you're still in pain. A lot of it, and I know you’re trying to downplay it—don’t look at me like that—so just let me help out with stuff for a couple days.”
Eddie quirks his lip at him. “You wanna rub ointment on my cast rash?"
“Who else would,” Buck says. It was supposed to be a question, lighthearted, but it’s just there. It hangs in the air, a miasma of all of Buck’s fully-realized feelings stinking up the place.
It’s gonna be a long six to eight weeks.
Three months after Buck moves out and two days after Buck realizes he’s in love, Eddie gets badly injured on the job. Buck unofficially moves back in to look after him.
He’s gonna be normal about it.

Buck is fucking frozen. His mouth is dry, and his brain is blank except for oh no, oh fuck reverberating in his frontal lobe. He can’t answer. He feels the pressure against the metaphorical closet door, the hinges creaking against the weight of the boxes crashing down.
“Are those… hearing aids?” He registers Eddie's voice through the ringing in his ears.
It takes him a moment before he can finally whisper it out. He feels his head nod against his will.
“Yeah.”
The door gives out.
or: how a conversation about tardigrades results in buck grappling with a disability he's suppressed, getting hearing aids, and realizing that the family he craves has been there for him all along. in that order.

The tv show host leaned forward inquisitively. “There are rumors about you and the artist Keefe Sencen.” ...
“We’ve always been friends. That didn’t change just because people on a global scale now recognize us.”
“But some recent photos make it seem like he’s not just your friend.”
“I don’t see why that’s any of your concern,” Fitz glared at the host then settled. He’d rehearsed this part for weeks now. “But if you mean the one photo everyone kept redistributing, it was impulsive and we both regret it.”

Keefe and Fitz are woven into each others past, and they can't ignore their feelings anymore. Secrets are the foundation of their affinity, but as the label on it starts to change, they find their opinion on secrets are changing too.
Fights turn into melodrama which turn into a reason for them to find each other and try again.
Which only stales the underlying problem for so long.
