Her companion growls nervously.
"I dunno, Rebel." Knucks responds, bumping shoulders with her as they watch eggforcers swarm the streets below. "I mean, what if we follow him right into the hands of the chaos council? Feels like a trap ta me."
The bat sighs. "Knucks, honey, everything feels like a trap to you."
"That's 'cause it usually is." He defends, raising a hand for emphasis. "'Sides, ive only ever seen speed like that from..."
The words are left unsaid between them, all too well remembering the horrors of the battles to save their home. Foiled, of course, by the chaos councils living weapon.OR
i rewrite sonic prime to include shadow variants, and i go a bit crazy with the lore, but what can i tell you, im shadow-pilled hedgehog-maxxed B)

They both grew quiet after this, the steady splash of fountain water trying to fill the gap in conversation. Far off they could hear the station tram zipping by, likely carrying the last of the late-night shifters and the Amestrian patrol back to their respective living quarters. Ling tried to focus, the room suddenly feeling far too big and far too empty. He slouched down the fountain’s rim a bit more, his head falling onto Ed’s flesh shoulder. He was closer now. If he could concentrate, he could hear the other’s heartbeat just that much easier. It was faster than usual and he was so tempted to reach his hand up over it. But then there was Ed beating him to the punch, fingers slotting in between his and squeezing. This was better. Ling let the moment pause for a few more beats before letting himself voice what had been bothering him ever since they’d finished with their plans.
“You’re going to be gone for a long time, huh?” He started, “Six months?”
“Probably a bit longer.” Ed replied.
