For the very first time, Padmé let her husband hold their son. For just a brief moment, it was like Anakin Skywalker was himself again, a smile overtaking his face as he looked down at Luke. Then, she remembered that Anakin had always been this way. He simply concealed it well. As long as she’d been in love with him, he had been a twisted, selfish man who would go to any length for his own selfish desires.
He'd fulfilled those desires by destroying everything she'd ever cared about, losing her in the process as Padmé lost herself, too. Staying beside him placed a burden on her that she wasn't sure she could survive, but for her children, and for the chance of fighting back against this wretched Empire, there was nothing she would not do.

None of Vader's subordinates would dare to speak to him or even look at him unprompted. Fear is an even greater barrier than the insulating prison of leather and durasteel he carries around with him.
And that is just as well. He is used to being alone, he tells himself. He does not need anyone. Needing someone is a weakness a Sith Lord cannot afford.
