There’s no time or space for grief or anything. He takes the children to buy black suits, he leaves them behind in the apartment, twelve-year-old A-Huan assuring him he’s old enough to be left alone with his brother, to go to their house and oversee it being packed up, the furniture sold, the personal effects of his brother and his wife put in storage.
There’s no room for decisions or education. Only him sitting at his table with two children, eating in silence, only hearing A-Huan whispering to his brother in the middle of the night, only the three of them all tangled up together with grief and confusion and pain.
And the certainty that he isn’t… that he won’t be a good parent.

The Venerated Trio all have little brothers they must worry over. Nie Huaisang won't protect himself, Lan Wangji is throwing himself into hunts as though he wants to die, and Jin Xuanyu... Lan Xichen has only just met Jin Xuanyu, but there's cause for concern with any Jin.
But at least he has Jin Guangyao to protect him from the worst Koi Tower has to offer.Alternatively: Four of the many times that Lan Xichen spent time with Jin Xuanyu, and one time he should have done.

Summary
Wei Wuxian returns from the dead in time to prevent Mo Xuanyu from performing his ritual - though he's not exactly clear how. What is clear is that he has to protect this teenager, and somehow get him to safety.
He intended that safety to be to find a nice farming village, where he could work as a laborer and they could live their lives in peace. Fate, however, has significantly different plans.Series
