Summary
On his first day in the prosecutor's office, Simon was fresh out of law school, excited, nervous and ready to take on the world.
On his second first day in the prosecutor's office, Simon was a dead man walking, ready to take on the world if it meant finally capturing the villain he had been hunting for years.
Now approaching his third first day in the prosecutor's office, Simon is a free man once more and hoping not to have to take on quite so much this time. All he wants is to win a few cases, make enough money to move out of his sister's house and start to rebuild his life. Simple.
If only people would stop making things so complicated.
Also featuring a suspicious lunchbox and a lot of hair care talk.

Summary
Iris had found it in the house's library earlier, hiding quietly in a corner, shoved between old children's books. It was just as dusty as the others, but its lack of a title had caught her eye. She thought that it might at least be written in it, but inside there were only four short stories.
Now, van Zieks was flipping through its pages, skimming over the words like Iris did that afternoon. 'Would you not rather read this yourself?' he asked, closing the cover. 'You are... you're eleven years old now, and I am sure you wouldn't need me to read it to you.'
'But it is your book, isn't it?' Iris said. 'Or, rather, your sister-in-law's...'
After Hurley's little accident, Iris finds herself staying at her uncle's house for a few days, wondering how she could possibly fit in its grand and stately walls. But there, she finds a book of stories penned by her mother. According to van Zieks, she had written it for him decades ago... so, of course, Iris must make him read it to her.
