  The people of Sumeru don’t dream.

  This, Alhaitham knew. Everyone in the whole nation, be it little kids, who still haven’t lost their dreams, or genius scholars, had always known that this is a sign of wisdom and a blessing from the Dendro Archon herself.

  Yet one night Alhaitham dreamed.

  Flashing visions of places and things yet unknown to him kept swarming his mind like pulsing, living entities. And in the middle of it all there stood a figure that looked maybe too much like the senior at the Akademiya that he had always glanced at fleetingly.

  And for a scholar of ration and logic like himself, this, and the destiny this mirage of the night had lead to, were the least rational things to have ever happened to him.
