He ignored the way his brother's eyes were staring holes into the side of his face. Reaching out without looking he flicked Stack on the forehead. Once upon a time his brother would have hissed in pain. He was sure Stack hardly felt it now, but he had been struck with muscle memory. Stack blinked back his shock, grinning bright and stupid. A warmth settling in his chest. His brother hardly ever touched him now. Stack didn't know if it was out of fear or disgust maybe both even.
"Quit starin' at me." Smoke huffed.
"Let me find out you making a friend Smoke."
"I ain't makin' no god damn friends."
"Yeah whatever. Louis kinda draw you in huh? No weird shit....just...." Stack fumbled, realizing how that was sounding.
Smoke ignored his fumbling. He understood what he meant. For someone so weighed down....he had a way of being a lighthouse in a storm. Like beckoning ships at sea closer. Or rather pulling out the dying embers and giving fresh air. Thats what he was....fresh air. Something new.....a change of pace.
"Yeah..." Was all Smoke offered back.

Jordan leaned back, exhaling like nothing happened. He grabbed his drink, took a long sip, and shrugged. "What? He was being a dick."
Marie narrowed her eyes. "That wasn't you calling him a dick."
Jordan’s mouth quirked, defensive, casual. "Okay, so maybe I don’t love watching some guy drool on the table at you. Sue me."
"Jordan." Her tone sharpened, but he just rolled a shoulder, gaze darting anywhere but at her.
"It’s not a big deal," he said quickly. "Seriously. Forget about it."
Marie stared, disbelief curling hot in her chest. "Not a big deal? You basically announced to half the bar that I belong to you."

Summary
"S'not fair he gets to keep you if it's mine." The words slip out before they can stop themselves, that competitive desire bordering resentment. There's no chalking things up to tension now, there was more to it than just a heated hook up. Jordan's thrusts pause, braced for an awkward conversation but Marie doesn't look upset. Instead she looks pensive, teeth worrying her bottom lip as she considered their words.
"Take me then, I won't stop you." She finally answers, long lashes dusting her cheeks as she looked aside, avoiding Jordan's gaze.
They're not having it, gripping her by the chin to face them. Even the slightest admission, a hint of a chance makes their heart skip a beat, but they're done cohabiting the middle ground with her. "Look at me, say it like you meant it." Jordan's tone is firm, fingers still pressed into her jaw. Marie's breath hitches, aroused by their assertiveness but also intimidated by the implication. It definitely didn't feel like bedroom talk, something to take back or write off as being a little sex drunk later. They were being serious.

They've never told anybody this, other than Andre and Luke one night freshman year when they were dragged into Andre's attempted record-breaking high. But now that just sort of means nobody knows, and the weight is Jordan's to bear alone since their parents forfeited any guilt and responsibility long ago. It was easier to confess while high, they won't lie. Less stakes when the guys you're telling are your best friends, not the girl you're trying to spend the rest of your life with.
Ducking her head to look in their eyes, since apparently they've dropped their head in the shame of existing they've felt since the age of six. She smiles, cheeks round and rosy in the way they get when she smiles at them. "You're still really bad at being vulnerable, ya know?" She laughs.
They can't help but laugh with her. "Shut up, I'm trying."
