Summary
The Father of Deceit can pick up on red flags faster than anyone, but in turn that means he may have a blind spot to green flags. As far as he's concerned, the smartest life strategy is to weed out anyone who gets too friendly out of caution for those with ulterior motives. Staying unpalatable was what saved his skin in the ancient war.
Now the Universe has thrown someone his way that fits his fancy. Surely it's another cocky mortal who wants to distribute more astral power to the inhabitants of Inkwell, or, more greedily, keep it to themself?
It only felt like yesterday Dice was cursed to be a Jinx for the rest of his life. Now he was on his last legs before everything came falling apart for good. He wasn't safe in his own world, so why would he be safe in the Devil's?
He understood whichever road he took the chances were slim he'd come out of this predicament alive -- He was staring Satan in the eyes, for crying out loud. Still, if there was any chance he could keep himself atop the house of cards he'd built for just a few seconds more, he'd take it. He had to try. What a view he had after all.

It's the middle of September in 1982. Modern vagabond, Stanley Pines, is caught offguard on his quest to make it big anywhere in the country. He stopped waiting for his brother to call in the 70's, and now here it is. His brother has just called him up, saying it's time to patch things up and he'd like to see him as soon as possible.
Stan didn't have anything better to do. He didn't need to pack, either. A life on the highway made that task easy. Not knowing what would come next was the hard part.

Once the credits rolled, Tenna readied five other channels for their next feature. Mettaton kept him on his toes. Best to be prepared.
Except not that night. No, he never reached for the remote control to browse his options. Mettaton simply lounged in bed, avoiding the television screen. And he threw Tenna a different kind of plot twist.
After back-to-back broadcasts to keep his new Lightner entertained, Tenna finally gets a break—and watches Mettaton perform instead.

Tucked behind a backstage curtain, Tenna made himself comfortable within an alcove. Out of sight, yet within view of Mettaton’s musical number. Barely sang the opening lyrics, and the anticipation dared to short-circuit him. A shaky breath slipped out while admiring Mettaton. Oh, how he longed to nestle between those legs and discover what other melodies he’d sing. That thought set off a spark and begged him to do something other than idly spectate.
Despite his efforts and best judgment, Tenna caved in.
Tenna tries to restrain himself while watching Mettaton’s stage performances. It goes as well as one would expect.

It's their own private joke. Their little hush-hush. A mutually assured, closely kept secret: Those censors are thrilling.
They've played with the settings. My, oh, my, how they've played. Off again, on again, a little slip of Mettaton's fingers on that switch to cut him off just long enough to hear that strangled yelp and bring him back again.
The tricky thing is, they create an absence of. That switch has no advanced settings. No filters. It's all or nothing, which can only take them so far. There's nothing to fight against. They are there, or they aren’t there, and that's all there is to it.
It just won't do.
Mettaton wants him straining.
