You'd think everyone had already written all the possible remakes of cannon ... but here we have what if Nick became friends with Elle first, before she transitioned and they then fake date, to give her extra support at a really difficult time.
It's an amazing idea, and so well written/executed, with beautiful weaving in of cannon moments throughout (with subtle differences). You're rooting for Nick and Charlie, as well as Elle, throughout 💜 -

Summary
In this aged-up AU, Charlie never told Nick that he'd been in love with him for a decade, until it blew up in their faces during a fight. After thirteen months of not speaking, Tori calls Nick to tell him Charlie needs him, and Nick drops everything to care for an injured Charlie.
Charlie broke his ankle and can't put any weight on it for five more weeks, which means needing help. Something he would rather die than ask for. Then, as if he's dreaming, Nick shows up when he's falling apart and vows to take care of him. It doesn't matter that they haven't spoken in over a year, all that matters is that Nick is there and holding him close.
But the feelings that nearly destroyed them are boiling under the surface. They need to figure out how to navigate the new them--even if that means reopening healed wounds. (This has a very happy ending don't worry!)

This is one of those rare stories where I get so swept up in it I'm back at the end again before I realise💜
Beautiful, a little sad but with a happy ending, Nick and Charlie had stopped speaking, but Tori gets in touch when Charlie’s injured and Nick swoops back in.But I would probably have bookmarked it just for brbrbeatrice's artwork at the end too! I think the one of them in the car is my favourite bit of art here on ao3💜

It always stops just as Charlie starts to lose himself in Nick’s touch and thinks that maybe—just maybe—today will be the day they take things further. So far, that’s never happened, and Charlie truly would have been okay with it if it wasn’t so fucking confusing.
Because why is Nick always dragging them straight to that tender, invisible line if he doesn’t want to cross it? Why does his breath catch in his throat when Charlie nips at that delicate spot right beneath his jaw? Why does he let Charlie practically insult his thigh or his stomach, encouraging him with the sweetest, gaspy moans, just to pull away when Charlie’s body starts to beg for more on its own accord?

Or, Nick and Charlie had their first time much later, because Nick was having a small “problem”…

So cute and sweet it could make you sick(!) - a long read with masses of nauseating texting between them both😆 is what Tao would say, but sometimes that's what I need:)
Realised I should add - was trying to be funny here, it is a gorgeous story with them both being utterly besotted with each other throughout. I think it wouldn't be Tao's cup of tea but it's extremely lovely and well written💜
