Summary
“Buck,” Eddie repeats, like the word sounds foreign to him.
“What’s your full name?”
He squints. “Eddie…Diaz.”
“No, your full name. Your legal name. Do you know it?” He’s starting to panic. The dispatcher’s voice speaks in the background, but Buck can’t focus on what she’s saying.
“Eddie?” he repeats. “Diaz,” he adds.
“Edmundo,” Buck whispers. His steady demeanor cracks. He closes his eyes, tears streaming down his face. “Edmundo Ramón Diaz,” he says, voice trembling.
In the middle of the Arizona desert, Eddie gets sick.

“Baby,” Buck whispers into the back of Eddie’s neck, his arms wrapped around him. “Wanna come with me to pick Chris up?”
“No,” Eddie responds, staring at the wall.
Buck frowns. “I think you should get out of the house. It’s been two days.”
“You don’t want me to come, anyway,” Eddie mumbles. “Don’t want to spend time with me, right?”

Buck blinks. “Wh—What?”
“I…I want to go by Eddie,” she whispers shakily, hands trembling inexplicably at her sides. “If that’s okay.”
