Piers never dynamaxed his pokemon for two reasons. One, the Spikemuth gym had a ceiling. He couldn't dynamax a pokemon without destroying it, and it costs too much to fix it. The second reason? He's scared shitless of it.
He's heard of it happening, where some people don't have the physical capabilities to dynamax a pokemon. They pass out, they become violently ill, they could probably die. Piers didn't want to find out.
