His hand circles Straw Hat’s entire neck and he squeezes very lightly, just to hear Straw Hat’s breath hitch. His thumb drags along the kid’s raw and bitten mouth.

He stops dead on the pavement, grips Mob by the shoulders, and stares down into his eyes with an expression as haunted as though every ghost the pair of them has ever exorcised has taken up residence behind it. “Mob,” he says. “Mob,” he says again. “Tell me, Mob. Look at me and tell me. Tell me truthfully. Do I look cursed to you?”
Mob looks at him, and tells him truthfully. “No.”
“Well, you didn’t look very long,” says Reigen. “Let’s just stand here for a moment, like so, and you can have another look, a nice long look, and really think about it...”

Faye’s beautiful; that’s been known, documented, irrefutable fact from the word go, like “stones don’t float” and “nuclear radiation causes cancer”. Faye also knows she’s beautiful, and consciously uses it to make complete suckers of anyone who gets in her way, and she’s very good at what she does. Jet’s not immune to it, exactly, but he likes to think two years of exposure therapy affords him a quick recovery from the initial salvo of Faye Valentine’s well-schooled and lethal charms. He remembers when she stumbled back onto the Bebop after that first run-in with the Red Dragon, in a skimpy red dress that was specifically designed to make you want to break the barely-there straps holding in her breasts and shove the clinging skirt up her hips and fuck her until she cried, and furthermore her hands were tied behind her back and she was demanding that Jet go find Spike at some church, now, and in that moment Jet would have moved Mars out of orbit for her, though once he came to his senses he thought it wouldn’t work twice.
But she wasn’t using her wiles then, at least not on purpose. She was herself, and she needed something, and Jet’s been weak to that since before he can remember.
