When Cas's grace is running out for the second time, the Winchester brothers enlist the help of a certain archangel to save his life. Gabriel comes up with the perfect solution: Dean and Cas bond. This seems like a great plan until Dean discovers too late what the bond really means. Gabriel informs him, much to his delight, that he is now Angel Married to Cas with no way of reversal. It’s partly to silence his own thoughts, and partly to explain his shell-shocked reaction that Dean says, “I didn’t even think that angels could feel stuff like that.”
Cas’s face goes blank. Neither Dean nor Cas say anything or look at the other for a long moment.
“To be fair, I don’t think angels are supposed to,” Cas finally says, voice rougher than it had been, and somehow distant. “Even as a human, I’ve never had a soul.” There’s a glassy look in Cas’ eye as he stares past a spot on the wall, and his voice dips quiet. “What should it feel like? To be in love?”

Dean didn't think that angels could feel love. He's very wrong about that. But he's also determined to make up for his mistake.
