That was it. Exactly that.
Yuji Itadori was like sunshine, or rather, like the sun itself. A presence so bright and warm it could blind anyone who got too close. The first time Megumi saw him, he considered stealing Gojo’s sunglasses because, seriously, it was too much. He was the kind of person who became a muse for countless artistic creations.
The problem-that-wasn’t-a-problem was that Itadori was the most radiant, affectionate, kind person on the planet to every other living being, except, of course, Megumi.

“I saved you, you saved me, then I saved you again and you saved me once more. Let me save you again, Yuji. This responsibility is ours together, you don’t get to make decisions alone. I won’t let you.”
“You’ll regret it.”
“I’ll regret it if I don’t live for you,” Megumi replied, his voice a little louder.
Yuji held both of Megumi’s hands, preparing to pull them away from his face, opening his mouth to argue that he would be saved if Megumi lived a happy life, even if that life didn’t include him, when an entire white flower interrupted them, landing upside down on Megumi’s left hand just as it was about to be removed.
“Huh?”
“I think it’s a camellia,” Megumi said, pressing the petals gently against Yuji’s cheeks. For some reason, he found the scene so funny he couldn’t hold back his quiet laughter. “It suits you.”
Yuji stared at him skeptically, feeling the softness of the petals combined with the warmth of Megumi’s skin still pressed to his own. “And what exactly does that mean?”
“I think it means love and memory. Something like that.”
or: Yuji travels across the multiverse to bring Megumi back.

“No,” Yuji quickly corrected, raising his hands defensively. “It’s just that… rumors started going around…” He whispered and leaned closer; Satoru leaned in too. “That you’re getting a divorce.”
Satoru snapped back upright at the speed of light, tilting his head thoughtfully. Even Yuji? So that was how people were reading it? He’d noticed a few suspicious comments about the nature of their relationship before, but no one had ever said it outright like that.
“Are we… married?” he asked in a horrified voice. Maybe he’d just missed a chapter. Or his own memory.
“Aren’t you?” Yuji looked uncomfortable.
or: Satoru couldn’t understand why everyone thought he and Suguru were getting divorced when they weren’t even married.

Summary
“So… are we a pair now?” He finished inspecting it and pointed to Umbreon, still tucked at Geto’s side.
That’s when Geto realized what he’d done.
He’d deliberately ordered cards of characters that were clearly linked. Espeon was Umbreon’s counterpart. One evolved by day, the other by night.
God. That was so cheesy.
“…N-no,” Geto tried to explain—of course he did—but Gojo laughed.
He laughed. Just like the week before.
The sound filled Geto’s head, wiping out every coherent thought. It felt like the hallway had gone dark, leaving only Gojo and the Espeon card glowing in the light of his laughter.
“Sorry, I’m not making fun of you,” Gojo said once he calmed down, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye, his voice returning to its usual calm. “I just thought it was funny because we really are a pair on the field—right and left wing.” He smiled warmly. “You’re perceptive.”
or: Geto falls in love with his best friend and teammate, but he doesn’t allow him to feel the same. That was the one thing they could never be a pair in.

Summary
“You can save whoever you want, Satoru. You are the strongest.”
He had always had an idea of his greatness, his capacity and potential, but it wasn’t something spoken out loud. Suguru was the first person to call him “the strongest”. It wasn’t true, though, not in a broader sense.
He stopped caring emotionally that year. He had to create an invisible barrier so he wouldn’t connect to the losses. People die every day; people will sometimes die right in front of his eyes, so… he would just have to do his best to save as many as possible.
Still, maybe that phrase dug deep enough to cling to his soul and earn the right to call him useless, because he never managed to save Suguru. He never had that wish fulfilled, even as the strongest.
or: Satoru makes a binding vow to fix his one and only regret as a sorcerer.

Summary
“I have an idea.”
Suguru perks up at the sound of Satoru’s voice, paling slightly when he takes in the expression on his face.
He has one of those looks, the one that tells Suguru the next words that will come out his mouth will either be absolutely brilliant, or the worst thing he’s ever heard.
Suguru gulps slightly, his palms suddenly feeling clammy. He wipes them on his thighs before letting his finger trace the rim of his glass. “What is it?”
“You can take me!” he beams, a magnificent smile spreading across his lips. “I’ll be your boyfriend!”
If Suguru could see his reflection right now, he would probably look as pale as Satoru.
A smoke signal, a flare gun going off, someone coming up to him and blatantly saying, ‘Hey, your best friend is about to say something really fucking crazy’, anything would have been nice to prepare Suguru for this.
“What?” Suguru croaks.

Summary
Now that he's looking for it, Yuuji can feel it: the words are etched into him, woven into his muscles and carved into his bones. Start by saving me, Itadori. Yuuji promised he would, so now he must.
The burning pain is starting to come back again. It begins in his chest this time, slightly to the right. Yuuji swallows, reaching up to press his hand against it.
So, he thinks dazedly, as the universe begins to take him apart. This is what happens when you break a Binding Vow.

Megumi dies in Shinjuku. Yuuji is thrown back in time to save him. Again, and again, and again.
(Or: Yuuji says “I’ll save you, Fushiguro” and the universe says “bet.”)
