And Buck’s there, face just inches from Eddie’s, forearm braced against Eddie’s sternum so that he feels it every time his ribs expand. It’s all heat and strength and that fizz below his skin that makes him feel like he might be losing his mind. They’re so close like this that for a second he actually thinks Buck might be about to kiss him.
Buck doesn’t say anything, just licks his lips, eyes trained on his mouth like he can’t meet his eye. Eddie waits a beat, then baits him, “Chain of command.”

“You’ve been avoiding me since you came back from Texas...” Buck says, a sadness to his tone that you could only notice if you knew him as well as Eddie did. “You don’t talk to me anymore! We’re living together and I barely see you! You find excuses to not hang out with me, then suddenly you start acting like Hen is your best friend? What the fuck is going on, Eddie?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t you like me anymore, Eddie?” He asks, and Eddie has to summon an almost inhumane strength to stop himself from holding Buck and screaming I love you.
“Don’t be silly, Buck, you know I do I-”
“Then why are you avoiding me?”
“I-” He can’t think of an excuse, not here, in the tight space of the ambulance with Buck this close, making Eddie's feelings expand themselves until they couldn't fit inside his body anymore “I’m in love with you.”
Or: Buck decides to confront Eddie on why he's avoiding him, one thing leads to another, and in their case, it leads to having sex in the ambulance.

“Your name is Buck?” Eddie asks, watching as Buck carefully nodded “My boyfriend’s name is also Buck.”
“Oh,” Buck sighs as he carefully lifts Eddie. “How— hum, What is he like?”
“Oh,” Eddie’s face lights up instantly “Buck is the best boyfriend in the world!” He adds with a warm smile “He’s kind, and he’s funny, and he’s smart, and he’s so beautiful. I swear to God, he’s the most beautiful man on earth.”
“Oh yeah?” Buck asks softly, a discreet blush growing on his face.
“Buck, stop fishing for compliments,” Hen mutters as they load into the ambulance.
“He wants to tell me about his amazing boyfriend Buck, just let him."
“You’re taking advantage of a concussed man,” Hen retorts.
“He’s keeping him alert,”
Or, Eddie has a concussion, and he can't recognize Buck.

Summary
“I napped for, like, thirty minutes,” Eddie says around a mouthful. Buck nods at the same time there’s a slurping noise. “Then Little Miss Buckley here decided sleeping is for fools and started doing somersaults against my stomach.”
Buck smiles at the nickname, sucking the lime juice off his thumb before grabbing another lime to cut. He looks at Eddie, his tired face but still glowing, eyes sparkly as his other hand makes its way down to the barely there bump that is their daughter.
“That means our baby’s going to be a gymnast,” Buck says fondly. “You should show more support for her hobbies, Eddie. She’s going to be an Olympic medalist.”
“Olympic medalist of making me pee myself, surely,” Eddie grumbles. In response, another wave of nausea hits, making Eddie sway visibly.
Buck hands him a lime slice without a word. Eddie shoves it in his mouth. They sit in companionable silence for a bit, then: “D’you think I have boobs?”

Summary
The gesture is so sweet. Eddie looks so happy. Buck wants to capture this moment forever, the snack aside, and keep it alongside the dozens and dozens of piling memories of happy, pregnant Eddie that he’s collected in the last few months. Some days are harder, heavier, especially when dysphoria creeps in, but there are so many good ones. Things are just so good.
“You wanna try?” Eddie asks.
No, no, no, fuck no, not really, I don’t even like pickles that much. I only eat the ones off your burger because you don’t normally like them, he thinks.
But what he actually says — because he’s whipped, in love, and their baby is growing inside Eddie's stomach — is, “Yeah, um… of course.”
