Summary
“You know, it’s fine if you consider Bobby your dad. I’m sure he would be thrilled to be that for you.”
Buck hums. He would be lying if he never though of Bobby in that way, that man is the closest thing to a parent he has ever had and he owns an actual pair of parents already. Every fight, every hug, every cooking lesson and a word of advice are adding up to hundreds by now and Buck could not imagine where he would be without Bobby’s steady guidance.
“Guess so” he answers and Eddie removes his hand but before he leaves, he hovers between the two rooms.
“And, bud? You are to Chris what Bobby is to you. Just in case that wasn’t clear.”
And then the bastard leaves.
Or, 5 times Buck does not realize he is Christopher’s parent and 1 time he does.

Summary
“I started you a warm bath it should help with the cramping a bit” Eddie says and Buck nods.
“Thanks” he murmurs, his traitorous heart speeding up at how easily Eddie slides into the role of a caretaker. Buck started to notice it more lately. His knee brace and painkillers would be placed on the bench at the station after a long shift that made his injury flare up. His favorite conditioner and curl mouse would be restocked before he even noticed they were running low. When his brain got too loud there would be headphones slid onto his ears with a podcast he was always forgetting to finish. When his limbs felt like lead there would be an offer to drive him home even though Eddie hates driving in LA, especially when their shift just ends and it’s still half dark.
The action’s feel a lot like love, but he is not ready to unpack that yet.
Or, Eddie and Buck get stranded at Nashville because of the storm. Feelings happen.

Summary
“You are mean to me.”
“I am actively in the process of making a hot chocolate for your whiny ass.”
“Bare minimum.”
Eddie groans. “Please get off Tik Tok.”
“I have evolved. Now I only use Instagram reels.”
“Is that better?” Eddie asks, not fully aware of all the nuances of social media. That’s fine by Buck, he has only been tutored by Christopher for a few weeks himself.
“To be decided. But I saw a concerning amount of likes on car crash videos.”
Or, Buck has a nightmare, Chris has a nightmare, and Eddie is a designated hot chocolate maker.

“Do you think we can substitute caramel sauce for maple syrup?” Eddie glances back at his son.
Christopher hums. “Both gold, sticky and sweet. You may be cooking, Dad.”
Eddie blinks slowly.
“No, I am baking.”
Chris’s sigh sounds even more pained than before. “Never mind.”
Or, Eddie attempts to bake. Christopher is helpful. Kind of.

Summary
Eddie opens the door with great struggle. The key is just so small and the keyhole even smaller and his hands are shaking. The crow’s steady kaw kaw kaw around him is not in the slightest helpful and makes him want to rip his hair out. He refrains from the action since his hands are preoccupied with the too small key. Eddie could swear the crows are laughing at him when he misses once more. See if he tosses them any more grains, bastards.
He allows himself a small grunt of victory when the door finally opens. With eyes half closes – why on earth were the lights so bright, were they always so bright – Eddie tosses the keys onto what hopefully is the side table. He stumbles forward in the direction of the couch and promptly sprawls over it, ignoring the couches indignant ow.
Or, Eddie has a migraine. He is grumpy about it. A Buck-shaped couch saves the day.

Summary
And Buck’s there, face just inches from Eddie’s, forearm braced against Eddie’s sternum so that he feels it every time his ribs expand. It’s all heat and strength and that fizz below his skin that makes him feel like he might be losing his mind. They’re so close like this that for a second he actually thinks Buck might be about to kiss him.
Buck doesn’t say anything, just licks his lips, eyes trained on his mouth like he can’t meet his eye. Eddie waits a beat, then baits him, “Chain of command.”
or,
Eddie baits Buck into spanking him.

Summary
“Your boy will be strong and fast. Steadfast in both mind and heart. He will grow to be something of pride.”
“And…” the man’s eyes passed over the youth. It stared keenly, watching as the man flinched away when he set eyes upon it, “the other one…?”
“Shall be left to the fates design. I will do no more.”Before it returned the cherub to them, it touched the child gently on the forehead, marking it with the Wild of the Water.
The child, too small to understand the gift he had been given, looked back at it without a hint of fear or disdain. He was too young yet to feel otherness, too pure of heart. Perhaps with the Water’s help, he never would.
It watched the man and the woman return to their mortal land with the boy, and it wondered what they would make of its trickery.
After all, it hadn’t lied. It had promised one of their sons would grow to be strong and sure, and that another would be left to chance.
It simply hadn’t told them which son.

Summary
Buck feels raw when he wakes up. His face hurts and he’s got a pounding headache. He’s overwarm and not alone. Something moves on his arm—
He slaps at it blindly.
“Ow, fuck! What the hell, man?” Eddie whisper-shouts, startled but still endearingly mindful of the quiet sanctity of the bunk room.
“I thought you were a bug,” Buck croaks.
Buck is just trying to do what Bobby told him to do. It might require an extended bug metaphor to get there.

Summary
She’s got that pitying expression that always puts Eddie’s hackles up, the widows-and-orphans face, and she’s looking at Buck and Chris as Chris whoops his way down the slide and Buck watches carefully as he catches himself at the bottom. “He must miss his sister very much,” she says. “They look so much alike.”
In which someone makes a totally logical, if heteronormative, assumption and Eddie loses his damn mind about it.
