"Did something good happen, Atsushi-san?" Tanizaki asked.
"He had a date last night," Ranpo explained as he opened a box of powdered donuts.
Dazai grinned and teasingly elbowed the younger detective in the side, "Good for you, Atsushi-kun."

Summary
It was easy getting close to Mark. They exchanged phone numbers one day, and since then, Atsushi could count on getting at least one message a day, usually more. He replied politely, because he didn't know what else to do. This kind of attention baffled him and intimidated him, but also made him feel suspiciously warm. He didn't understand why someone like Mark would pay attention to someone like him. The only lead he had was that their duel (or so he called it...) left an impression on him. Atsushi took that explanation and ran with it. Mark didn't know what he was actually like. He didn't know that he wasn't cool or strong or brave at all, that he didn't deserve all the attention he was getting. There was something safe about that. Like a shield, a glass dome over him.

Summary
Just as he thought. The Guild. Atsushi took a step back. Well... he did have some pleasant experiences with ex-members of the Guild. If nothing else, they made powerful allies. The Agency benefitted from having access to Anne's Room, and, while he didn't know Poe too well, he did know of the many cases he helped solve. Perhaps this man, whoever he was, could prove to be a useful ally too. Atsushi gulped. “Sorry,” he said, bowing his head lightly. English speech sounded so unnatural in his mouth, but he prayed that it would be understood. “I don't know who you are. I don't know what I did to you, but I'm sorry about it. I will be going now.”
“Whaaaa?” A shriek of disappointment and disbelief tore out of the man's throat as he yanked his auburn hair. Funny, Atsushi thought, this was the second red-haired person he'd met from the Guild. He was under the impression that people with red hair were usually pale, but this man was quite tan, with golden freckles all over his cheeks. Even when cartoonishly contorted like this, his face was pleasant to look at. “C'mon, what do you mean you don't know me? We had a duel! Twice! Two times I shot at you! We know each other, right?!”

Summary
“Don't worry about me!” Mark waved his hand dismissively. “I never get cold! You know why? 'Cause I'm too hot!” he exclaimed proudly, and puffed out hia chest. Atsushi looked away, embarrassed, and it took a lot of willpower to tear his eyes away from the sight. He never could tell if Mark knew exactly what he was doing, or if he just happened to be doing it accidentally. His question was, indeed, an attempt at gauging just that, but so far, he was just as unsure as before. “Jokes aside,” Mark said, stroking his chin, “it ain't like I got just this one shirt, y'know. I wear other things, and sometimes, they're buttoned up proper!” He grinned. “When it's cold out or when I have to. But when I don't gotta, when I'm home or when it's warm out, I wanna let'em breathe.”
