Bucky turned his head to give Sam a cocky grin over his shoulder. “What, pussying out already?”
“Who the fuck is teaching you these words?” Sam shook his head, but to his credit, he did get back to tying Bucky's hands behind his back. The knot wasn't tight at all – Bucky could probably break it with a single tug of his wrists – but the sensation still made his heart beat a little faster. “There. How's that?”

Summary
There are days when Sam wonders if he should've stayed in bed. This is one of those days.
It had all started fairly normal; he and Bucky had been briefed on the mission they had to embark on at dawn; a lab discovered on an island, with strong suspicions of illicit research, which the authorities theorised might be alien-forward, or another HYDRA base.Turns out it's neither, and Sam ends up taking the brunt of the damage when Bucky gets hit with a product that turns him feral.

“Up. Stand up.” The voice was steady. Sam holstered his gun slowly and raised his hands. “Shit, I said up, before I kill you right here.”
Sam got a foot under himself and stood. The barrel of the gun stayed pressed into his neck, warming against his skin.
"Face me.”
Sam turned, heels close to the edge of the cliff. His eyes tracked past the pistol looming close, to the man holding it. He looked about how Sam would expect. A dark bandana covered his face, and long greasy hair hung loose under his hat, almost to his shoulders. His shirt and pants may have been black once, but now they were the color of sweat, and grime, and dust from the road. There was a large knife strapped to his right thigh. He looked like the kind of man who could get a jump on Sam, who would make good on his promise to shoot, who knew how to survive. He spoke in a low growl.
“I know you’re tracking Pierce. Just stop and we won’t have a problem. He’s mine.”

Sam's a bounty hunter on the trail of a dangerous gang leader when he meets Bucky, who is after the same man - for far more personal reasons.
