She held the yet to be named Perseus Jackson to her chest, and leaned back on the hospital bed, he was ugly— as all babies were, but he was hers, of her flesh and blood, or maybe Sally Jackson’s flesh and blood, but she was Sally now, and that meant that he was hers.
She didn’t want to think too much about before and now, didn’t want to think of her siblings and her mom, didn’t want to think of the fiance that she’d left behind, it was fine. Really, she’d miss them, of course, but this was her life now, she couldn’t break apart, there was a baby that needed her, that depended on her, and she couldn’t— wouldn’t abandon him like that.
