Roland bared his teeth. One could have called it a smile.
"You mean I did as I was told?" he asked sharply. He stepped forward into Zorion's space and let the inches of height he had on him do their work as he looked down at him. "I did what I did because you happened to be right this time. Not because you commanded me."

"Have you ever tried restraining a horse that bolts?" Roland's voice dropped low. When he smiled, his fangs gleamed, incongruously bestial on that lovely face. "You cannot. You have to let it run its course lest it trample you down. Or you must teach it not to bolt in the first place."
"And which should I do with you?" Zorion asked and took Roland's chin in hand: a firm grip as if to scold a child. "Should I let you bolt or should I teach you better?"
Roland is intrigued that Zorion's shadows can restrain him, but when he seeks him out in private, they both get more than they bargained for.
