Her laughter faded. “Five hundred years, I think. Or four, depending on how you count it.”
Wanderer didn’t seem to be put off by the difference in these numbers. Lumine wasn’t sure how much information the Fatui had gathered on her situation, but his quiet acceptance wasn’t surprising to her.
“You were staring at the stars last night.” He glanced up at the ceiling, his shoulders stiff, as if glancing at an imaginary sky. “Do you miss them?”
It was Lumine’s turn to grow quiet, her good mood drowned in an air of longing for the unobtainable.
“...There’s nothing like it.”
Or:
Lumine and Wanderer are forced to question what it means to exist, and grow closer in the process.

"Why make both of us suffer," Lumine says, tempering her voice to be sweet and coaxing as she tries to keep up with his rapid strides. "I’m sure you can have a more comfortable dinner without me around to make things miserable."
He stops in his track and looks back at her, and his eyes are burning with an insistence she doesn’t understand. An ire that could only be cultivated through years and years of hatred, sharpened and whetted over and over again. When he speaks, his scorn is palpable despite the chill of the night, words pointed like a knife. "I’ll suffer the misery gladly," he says, "if I can see you suffer that same misery alongside me."
or: when the job offer is too good to be true, think twice before accepting—then accept it anyways.

”But seeing as you’ve gone into so much trouble to track me down, I’m sure whatever it is must be important,” yet he couldn’t help the tiniest droplets of hope seeping through his words. Please let it be important. Please let him spend just a little while longer next to her.
“There’s somewhere I want to take you,” she started off a bit hesitant, but then seemed to make up her mind and looked at him boldly, with determination.
He hoped she could take him home.
Or: as Wanderer finds out his self-erasure from the world's memory didn't help restore what he had broken, he finds a new, creative way to dispose of himself. Things don't go as planned, and now he has to face the person he dreaded the most. But maybe... he can find something more than fear and regret in himself? Maybe he can find something more than he has ever dared to ask for—in her.
