Summary
At the Battle of Potidaea in 432 BC, Anakin Skywalker and his former tutor Obi-Wan Kenobi served together as hoplites in the phalanx, sharing a tent and meals, living side by side. During the siege, Obi-Wan was drawn by Anakin into a relationship where erotic attention and physical intimacy is mixed into their old, strong mentorship bond. “For xahx’s sake,” Obi-Wan hisses, stumbling to his feet. He has to focus very hard on keeping his gaze firmly on the boy’s face, Force’s sake, it’s a human boy with wings— “What are you? Who are you?”
The boy cowers back on the cave floor, eyes wide. “I’m sorry, Jedi, I didn’t mean to fall asleep, I was going to wait until daylight to turn!”
“To—to turn?” Obi-Wan covers his face with his hands, feeling a noticeable flush on his cheeks from the shock of waking up to a naked young man on his lap. His voice is sharp. “Are you a shapeshifter? Ekkai?”
“Dai,” the boy breathes in response. Obi-Wan notices a tremble in his limbs; he feels a pang of guilt in the pit of his stomach and tries to soften his posture in response. “The Force.” He points at himself.
Obi-Wan inhales slowly through his nose.
“You know of the Jedi, then?” He asks, keeping his voice measured.
“The Jedi,” the boy confirms. “The Sith.”
Instantly, the Force screams out like alarm bells.

The cub opens its eyes at the same time Obi-Wan hears Qui-Gon say, as if from far away: “The choice is yours to make. But it’s only right that you be aware that doing so will kill the j’ali."
Intelligent curiosity shines in its eyes. The thought of damning it to a cruel and heartless death brings Obi-Wan physical pain. “No,” whispers Obi-Wan unknowingly. He can’t let the cub die. If he does, he senses that the Force will rip itself loose and leave him a hollow echo.
“I thought so,” says Qui-Gon, resigned.
(While on a mission, Obi-Wan is gifted an unusual beast.)
