“Well,” he tries to salvage, eyes widening. “It’d depend on what you asked of me, birdy. But just about, yeah.”
Merlin wriggles his toes under the cushions, deep in thought. Gwaine’s eyes slide shut again as Merlin sighs in supposed contentment. “What if I asked you to take Arthur his dinner?” He asks after a moment.
“Sure, yeah. I’ll do that for you,” Gwaine says amusedly, opening his eyes to rejoin the world. It’s an easy yes, if tedious. Merlin rarely asks for help when he needs it and the knight wasn’t lying when he said ‘anything.’
“Would you help me with the washing up?” Merlin asks, tilting to stare up at him.
Gwaine pretends to think about it for a moment before shrugging. “Eh. Not my favourite chore, but if you truly needed help.”
“What if I asked you to gather herbs with me?” he asks, blue eyes comically wide.
And though Gwaine tosses his head back and laughs, he also places his open hand on his heart and says, “I swear to you, Merly, on my honour. I will protect you from the valley snakes,” just to see the wide grin that breaks out on his friend’s face.

A squeak of a floorboard makes him instinctively flinch- barely -but it's there. Followed by a scoff behind him, he feels himself just- melt.
Like his insides transformed from air to molasses in a millisecond.
He feels so heavy.
He feels like someone's put him over a fire but just keeps burning and burning him until he's nothing but ashes and then decides to burn the ashes, too.
He feels like he went swimming in the ocean but he went too far and now he can't see the shore and he's been swimming for hours, days, weeks, months, and the salt is burning him but he wants to live but it's been so long and he's so so tired and he just wants help and-
"Tt. Talking to yourself now, Drake? Pathetic."

Summary
An incredibly unstable and pissed off Connor Murphy still had his original letter, plus the means and incentive to distribute it to the whole school and completely ruin Evan’s life. Potential life. It was one of the few things that could actually make his life worse than it already was.
He has to get that letter back.

Evan decides the only way to prevent his life being destroyed by Connor is to sneak into Connor’s room and steal back his letter. Only he doesn't count on catching Connor mid-suicide attempt. Or on saving him.

Summary
Tim’s spleen wasn't the only thing he had lost in the desert that night.
The Widower left him with an injury that had forever altered his life, but Tim had adjusted. He was fine, great even. His only worry was how his family would react when he eventually found Bruce and went back to Gotham.
But to his surprise (and relief), they never even mentioned it. They carried on as if everything was normal, and that's what Tim had wanted. At least, he thought it was.
Until an incident in the field reveals a secret Tim didn't even know was a secret, and now he is forced to deal with all the emotional blowback he thought he had avoided.
Or,
Tim loses a leg in the desert. He really thought his family had noticed.

Summary
A short, mean, and disbelieving laugh bounces around the kitchen. “You’re joking.” Jason’s laughter turns into an outright cackle, and he has to put his coffee mug down on the counter to avoid spilling it.
“Back off.” Despite wanting to, Tim can’t hide the fact that his voice shakes, but suddenly his grip doesn’t. “Jason, I swear—”
“You gonna point that thing at me? You don’t even know what to do with it.”
The older boy is too close. Far too close. Tim flinches back, raises the gun, and without thinking about it presses it under Jason’s jaw.
All of a sudden, neither of them can breathe.
Jason’s eyes harden, glancing at the finger hovering over the trigger.
After a moment, Jason speaks up, almost softly— with how close they are, his voice doesn’t need to carry far. His voice goes flat. “This is hilarious.” The tone says otherwise.

OR: Tim has PTSD after the Titans Tower attack, and secretly keeps a gun — just in case. With Jason back in Gotham, “just in case” starts to feel more and more and more inescapable.Series
