“Charles,” Loki called in a deceptively calm tone, “what are you doing?”
The boy flinched, then slowly turned, offering a lopsided, unapologetic grin. His yellow eyes gleamed with mischief, and one sharp fang peeked out from his crooked smirk.
“Nothing,” he said too quickly. “Just… fishing theory.”
“You are tying a lure from the forbidden rack, with line we use for open-sea battles.”
“Technically,” Charles said, holding up the lure like it was a peace offering, “I’m just demonstrating curiosity. Which I heard is a good thing in academic settings.”
“That is a monster-grade lure. What exactly were you going to catch in this bay, Charles? A kraken?”
Charles paused thoughtfully. “Wouldn’t that be cool, though?”
A low ripple of laughter broke out among the other trainees.
Loki’s jaw flexed. “You were told to sit still. You were told to pay attention. You were told—”
“I’m a contrarian,” Charles cut in, rising to his full height and rolling his shoulders lazily. “Means I do better when I don’t do what I’m told.”

Summary

Summary
“Sooo I didn’t get the job, then?” Shidou broke the momentary silence between them lamely as Sae shot a deadpan stare at him and ignored the way his insides crooned in inexplicable fondness at the crinkles at the corners of Shidou’s lined eyes when he smiled. To Sae, the human eye seemed like the loneliest of all creations—how so much passes through the pupil and yet still, it holds nothing. The eye, alone and silent in its hollow socket doesn’t even know there’s another one, just like it, mere inches away—hungry as it is empty. Yet now, as Shidou squints at him in what he finally recognises as want, he can’t bring himself to hate the look.
“Fortunately not,” Sae bit back in return, deciding to indulge in whatever game of cat and mouse they seemed to be playing, much to Shidou’s delight as he stood up and stretched overdramatically.
”Damn. And here I was thinking this went well,” Shidou sighed woefully, pouting in mock disappointment and eliciting the smallest twitch of Sae’s lips in return. An unfair exchange, he thought. What he’d give to see a full fledged grin spread across that pretty face.

Charles leaned into his personal space, a pout situated on his face. “Then what do I do? I just want his number!”
