Summary
“There was a boy,” Izzy’s dad murmurs. “He… he was my first friend—my best friend. And I…”
His voice trails off. Tears well in her dad’s eyes, and Izzy reaches across the space between them, taking his free hand. She gives it an encouraging squeeze, and her dad laughs, soft and broken and free.
“I loved him, Izzy,” her dad whispers, meeting her eyes. “I loved him. I really, really did.”
Or:
The one in which Mike Wheeler has a crash out of epic proportions when listening to ’Good Luck, Babe!’ and his daughter, Izzy, decides to do something about it.

The Byers’ new house is closer to Mike’s.
This is a Development.
Mike sees Will on the weekends. Mike sees Will on occasional school nights. Mike sees Will like he’s living with them again, stuffed into Mike’s back pocket, comfortably, reliably close.
Turns out, this is a problem.
.

Summary
“I can see just fine,” Will snaps. He doesn’t even want to have this conversation with Mike in the first place. If he did, it would’ve been a long time ago. “Why do you even care?”
“Why do I—” Mike splutters. “Because I care, Will! I care about you.”
Honestly — what was Mike expecting? That the past month didn’t happen? That they aren’t being weird again? The end of a literal apocalypse did more harm to their friendship than good, apparently, and it’s not something either of them can ignore.
Or,
The world is no longer ending. Half of them have moved into the WSQK. Max is learning how to walk again, Mike is hanging out with Robin Buckley, of all people, and Will—
—still hasn’t told anyone that he can’t see out of his eye.

In his almost 17 years being alive, Will has learned many things. Very high on that list is that there’s a fine line between “best friend” and “something more.”
Michael Wheeler uses that line like a fucking jump rope.

Summary
“Have you noticed the signals?” Robin asks softly.
Will freezes. He’s quiet for one… two… three moments, before slowly, he lifts his head and meets Robin’s gaze. His eyes are still wide—full of an understandable uncertainty but also a hope that’s so infectious that Robin can’t help but smile.
“I… I think so,” he confesses. “I… I don’t know if they actually mean anything, but… but everything you said to look for… all those signals…”
His voice trails off, and Robin offers a wry smile, finishing the thought for him, “They’re definitely there.”

“I couldn’t let him hurt you,” Will blurts out. He turns back to Mike now, and there’s a desperation in Will’s eyes that damn near takes Mike’s breath away. “When I… when I saw that demo about to attack you, I just… I just knew I had to do something. Anything. I… I couldn’t lose you.”
Warmth rushes to Mike’s cheeks. That same, fluttery feeling from before has returned with a vengeance, and there’s a dozen different thoughts swirling around in his mind. Will wanted to protect him. Mike.
It’s dizzying to even try to wrap his mind around.
Or:
In the aftermath of the MAC-Z battle, Mike and Will have a discussion about Will's powers, his friendship with Robin, and his newfound self-confidence.

Summary
“Woah,” Will whispers to himself incredulously, laughing a little under his breath as he shuffles through the pages of the letter again. He can’t help but admire the smooth, off-white stationery, its pleasant weight in his hands. A serious-looking “MJW” watermark adorns the top of each page, totally at odds with the entertaining missive and its author’s garbled cursive. Will laughs quietly to himself again. What sixteen-year-old boy on earth has monogrammed stationery?
Michael J. Wheeler, apparently. Where did Max find this guy?
Mike Wheeler is insecure, even by normal teenage standards. So when his friend, Max, connects him with her old friend from California, he's surprised by how easily they get along. But as the weeks wear on, their letters grow increasingly personal, and they make plans to embark on a week-long trip, Mike can't let go of one inconvenient, anxiety-inducing thought: What if he wants to be more than friends?

It’s winter in Hawkins, and Mike and Will aren’t speaking anymore. Living in Mike’s house, Will tries to be invisible, spending most of his time in the basement.
Then the power goes out — and if there’s one thing he dreads more than facing Mike, it’s the cold.

“It’s a good thing,” Will reassures, and his thumb swipes over Mike’s cheek. Mike thinks he might explode. “It means you’re nice to look at. Artists would love you.”
Mike’s heart feels like it’s about to burst out of his chest. Will is still looking at him, and he swallows, throat dry. “Yeah?”
Will’s own face reddens, like he’d just thought about what he said. “Yeah,” he answers, and Mike grins.Living in a shared apartment with Will is all Mike could ask for, except for the part where he keeps thinking about kissing Will in the middle of their kitchen.

Summary
They’d graduated and Will had disappeared — not just to Mike, to everyone. It’s not like it was mean-spirited. He needed to leave Hawkins in the rearview, to figure out who he was without the ghosts of monsters at his heels. Mike had stayed in Indiana. Dustin and Lucas and Max had ended up in Chicago. Will had gone the farthest, all the way out to California, and he’d tried to become a different person.
In some ways, he insisted, he was. He was different from all of his friends — always had been. There was a reason he’d been singled out on the playground, and they would never get that. They would never know what it felt like for Will to realize, one day, that all those bullies and his own dad had been right. They didn’t have friends and mentors dying right now. It wasn’t their fault — they were just normal. They’d never understand.
Except, well, now Mike is sitting here, at a gay bar, getting elevator eyes from two bears and a leather daddy.

“It could be nice. Right? We could get a cool house, and like, a dog. Or two, maybe. Have you seen those golf simulators? We could get one of those. And I want a pool.”
“Mack.”
Silence, thick and striking.
“Just imagine it,” Mack whispers, “Just pretend for a minute, okay? We aren’t getting married, I know, it’s fucking stupid. But just, like, pretend.”
“It’s really late, dude. We need to sleep.”
“What kind of mattress would we have?” He asks.
He can’t help it. He has to pry, he has to dig his fingers into the cracks and pull it all apart.

“So the guy we’re looking for is Swedish, but plays in Canada, is about uni age, and fit,” Grimmy says.
“Yeah,” Harry says. “Blonde, too.”
“Well, if you fit that description, please know that Harry’s looking for you, and also that he’s about to introduce our next song.”
The clip cuts off there, and Willy stares blankly at his phone, wondering if that really just happened.
