„So, that colleague of yours. She make you happy? You all shacked up, now that you’re finally rid of me?“
Somehow, after signing the divorce papers, the only thing they could think of doing was walk into the seedy pub across the street and sit down for a beer.
The question stings like a slap to the face, but Melissa forces herself not to let the pain show on her face. Forces her voice to come out level and uncaring.
„She and her husband made up.“, she takes a long sip of her beer. „They’re try’na make it work.“
Joe winces apologetically. „I’m sorry, Lissy. That sucks.“ Somehow, he has the audacity to sound genuine.
„Well, you win some you lose some.“ She shrugs, trying to pretend that her life isn’t in complete and utter shambles. „Am I right?“Two decades worth of Abbott history and through it all: Barbara and Melissa, two constants in an ever shifting ocean of learning and longing.
